What types of conditions can orthotics help?

There are many different foot and ankle conditions that can benefit from the use of custom orthotics as part of a treatment plan. Some of the conditions orthotics help are bunions, calluses, corns, flatfoot, cavus foot (high arches), hallux rigidus (stiff big toe), hammer toe (and claw toe), metatarsalgia (forefoot pain), Morton’s neuroma, and plantar fasciitis.

Orthotics generally fall into either of two categories – functional or accommodative. Functional orthotics control and restrict abnormal motion and are useful for conditions that result in gait patterns that lead to issues like excessive pronation or supination. Accommodative orthotic devices are constructed from soft materials and provide support and additional cushioning. These can be used to treat nerve pain or keep diabetic individuals safe from developing dangerous foot ulcers.
