Clear, Clean Nails After Laser Therapy
As with other areas, the field of medicine is certainly improved with the use of technological advances. The Kansas Foot Center is proud to provide many state-of-the-art options for helping patients overcome an array of medical issues. There are many times when we use these options to avoid complex, invasive procedures for our patients. At other times, as with laser therapy for fungal nails, we use them simply because they work!
Traditionally, there were essentially two different ways of treating a case of fungal toenails – oral and topical medications. Depending on the patient and the severity of the infection, these options have varying degrees of efficacy. More concerning, though, is the fact they can sometimes come with undesired side effects.
Side effects tend to be more common with oral medication, but it is better at treating an infection from the inside than topical treatments. So each of these treatment options has its respective downside that is not present in laser nail fungus treatments.
When we use lasers to provide clear, clean nail tissue, there are no side effects (as there can be with oral medication) and the concentrated light beams are able to penetrate through the nails to eradicate fungus growing on the nailbeds (which topical medication cannot reach). This FDA-approved procedure is really the best of both worlds. It is safe and effective.
